Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Circa 1913) dressed as Tamil indentured labourer during his Satyagraha in Durban, South Africa.
One hundred years ago, on September 11, 1906, an impassioned young barrister gathered 3000 Indians in the Empire Theatre Building in Johannesburg, South Africa, and asked them to take an oath to resist their white colonial oppressors without striking a single blow. The young Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi called it "The art of living and dying".

Dandi March
The Salt Satyagraha was a campaign of non-violent protest against the British salt tax in colonial India which began with the Salt March to Dandi on March 12, 1930. It was the first act of organized opposition to British rule after Purna Swaraj, the declaration of independence by the Indian National Congress. Mahatma Gandhi led the Dandi march from his Sabaarmathi Ashram to Dandi, Gujrat to make salt, with growing numbers of Indians joining him along the way.

Nathuram Vinayak Godse the assassin (NVG for short) - center.
The assassin, Nathuram Godse, was a Hindu radical with links to the extremist Hindu Mahasabha, who held Gandhi responsible for weakening India by insisting upon a payment to Pakistan. Godse assassinated Gandhi on January 30, 1948, approaching him during a public appearance and shooting him at close range.

The gun used by Godse was a Beretta M1934 semi-automatic pistol in .380 ACP caliber, serial number 606824.
Gandhiji's Assassination trial.
Godse stood trial on November 8, 1949. During the trial, he spent five hours reading out a ninety-page treatise justifying his decision to kill Gandhi. Apparently the crowd who attended the trial (conducted by three judges) approved of his speech: Judge Khosla, who presided over the trial, mentioned before awarding the death sentence, "If the people sitting in the court had been on the jury, they would have acquitted Nathuram".

Mahatma Gandhiji is a great inspiration. He watered the Indian Independence Movement. Injected the freedom thoughts and insisted the importance of freedom. This simple, humble man's deadly weapon is his silence and nonviolence. Mahatma lives in each and every puff of air we breath. Mahatma is not a person, who we should remember only on October 2nd, January 30th, August 15th and January 26th rather we should worship him, i consider him as The Almighty who taught us the ability to resist evil superior power and the importance of AHIMSA .

jaihind!!!!
nice collection of photos & related basic information.
However one humble request is to replace "gandhi's murder" by "gandhi's assassination".
Murder is always for some personal benefit in terms of money or kind, however assassination is a political killing which may or may not be for personal benefit.
Hutatma Nathuram Godse didn't assassin gandhi for any personal or worldly benefit.
good pics
Can anyone tell why Gandhi used 3 monkeys ?
